About this course
Ellen Fisher is a brilliant artist and facilitator. Her workshops combine dance, music and voice that encourage the body to sing and the voice to dance. Fisher uses techniques that tap into intuitive rhythmic dance and invites us into a movement vocabulary that considers phrasing, gestural narratives and image. Her long working relationship with Meredith Monk has enabled her to hone these techniques and exercises through performing and team teaching. Friday 14 Feb 7-9pm Saturday 15 Feb 10am-4pm Sunday 16 Feb 10am to 4pm. Fee £150 A small number of pay what you can afford bursaries are available. She has had teaching appointments throughout Europe and the US. At present she is performing and teaching with the Meredith Monk vocal ensemble. Fisher’s performance work is informed by ethnographic research in trance dance and rituals of South Asia, particularly Sri Lanka, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Fisher continues to teach and collaborate with artists on community intergenerational and intercultural projects, both domestically and internationally. Ellen will be assisted by Sian Croose, Co-Director of The Voice Project.
